New Zealand Government Increases Road User Charges

Posted on 2 July 2012

As many will have seen and heard in the media over the last few weeks, the Government has confirmed that as of 1st August 2012 the following changes will occur to the Road User Charges (RUC):

  • A new Road User Charges (RUC) structure will come into force.  This system has new vehicle types, weight bands and rates for RUC.
  • In addition to this the Government has increased the RUC by 4.1% (on average) from 1st August 2012.

These changes will increase the cost of road transport, and it is vitally important that we recover these increases, and pass these to our contractors / owner drivers across New Zealand.

Mainfreight is currently calculating the overall impact of the new RUC system and rates on our business and we intend to recover this via our Fuel Adjustment Factor (FAF).  An amended FAF table, confirming the increase will be sent to our customersin the coming weeks and will be effective from 1st August 2012.

We appreciate your custom and support, and should you have any questions regarding the changes, please have no hesitation in contacting your local Mainfreight branch manager.
