South Island Rail Service Disruption April 2014
Update April 23
Kiwirail have advised us that the work is progressing well on the Main North Line (Picton - Christchurch) which is expected to re-open soon.
Additional locomotive power will be brought in, as the backlog will take some time to clear.
Thank you for your patience during this trying time - we will continue to keep you updated as the situation develops.
Disruption to South Island Rail Service
The after-effects of cyclone Ita and the extreme weather conditions throughout the country over the past few days have resulted in service delays into and within the South Island.
The main north rail line remains closed between Blenheim and Kaikoura due to slips and washouts. At this stage the line is expected to re-open Wednesday afternoon. This has meant significant tonnage will be held up from last week.
The main south rail line, south of Christchurch re-opened Sunday afternoon.
Your local branches will keep you updated as the network returns to full service.
Please ensure your customers are aware of these interruptions to normal service, and the on-going effects this week as we deal with the backlog of volume.
Thank you for your patience.
