COVID-19 Update | August 2021
New Zealand Update | 23 August 2021
This service update is provided following yesterday’s Government announcement of the extension to New Zealand’s lockdown, which will see the Auckland region remain in Alert Level 4 lockdown until midnight Tuesday 31st August, and the rest of New Zealand until Friday 27th August (these Alert Levels are to be reviewed by Government again on these respective dates).
As a community we are all faced with expanding numbers of close contacts linked to places of interest, forcing increased numbers to self-isolate. As a consequence, we are operating with skeleton shifts in place to help mitigate the risk of having to close any of our sites.
As we face these challenges, our teams continue to maintain services for our customers. We remind all customers that services may be delayed as we maintain safe operating practices, and with reduced volumes. We kindly ask that this is a constant message to all parties as we collectively navigate the restrictions.
We appreciate the level of receiver details being provided, including contact names and mobile numbers, which is assisting deliveries. Residential deliveries continue to require stricter delivery protocols compared to business locations, as we need to first establish the household’s COVID-19 status to avoid breaching Ministry of Health instructions.
Other details are available from your Account Manager or local branch to assist with residential delivery protocols. A reminder that no household or branch pick-up/collections are available under Alert Level 4 settings.
We wish to specially acknowledge the difficult role our Drivers face each day; we appreciate the help they are receiving from our customers who exhibit patience and encouragement. Thank you from all our teams for the ongoing support from our New Zealand and offshore customers
New Zealand Update | 18 August 2021
Last night, 17th August 2021, the New Zealand Government announced the detection of community spread of COVID-19 in the Auckland region.
From midnight last night, the Auckland and Coromandel regions moved to a level 4 lockdown for 7 days, and the rest of New Zealand for 3 days. Alert levels remain in place until midnight 24th August and 20th respectively.
As an essential service provider, Mainfreight will maintain its full nationwide Transport, Warehousing and Air & Ocean services. However, services to certain destinations (primarily regional New Zealand and inter Island) will see transit times extended, as our team navigates closures and reduced volumes whilst maintaining safety protocols.
Our objective within this restricted environment is to use our best endeavours to maintain all services. We kindly ask that freight is not presented to us unless there is a high certainty that we will be able to make the delivery. We also require the receiver’s name and mobile number to allow our team to make contact to establish the necessary delivery protocols.
We cannot expose our team to unnecessary risks that may compromise supply lines, as these are critical to supporting other essential services in the best interests of all New Zealanders. As a result, we ask for your patience, as our teams adhere to the following safety principles:
Contactless Safety Protocols
All deliveries/collections must be contactless
- Please maintain 3-metre social distancing for our drivers.
- No signature required on delivery where receivers are unable to sign a delivery receipt outside the 3-meter zone, and with their own pen.
- In the event of “no signature”, our drivers will request the receiver’s full name.
- We can provide residential delivery services based on specific protocols; these are available from your local branch or account manager. Currently no residential collection services are available.
- Level 4 demands that all our depots will be closed to the public.
We thank our customers for promoting the safety of our team and each other in this time of lockdown restrictions. As the impacts of this latest outbreak unfold, we will continue to provide concise information to assist your ability to make informed decisions.
We remain available in all local regions to assist or answer any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us
